Dental Jargons

How you say it; how your dentist says it...

Have you ever tried to explain your problem to the dentist but not able to find the right words to say? You then have to use all your effort to describe the problem and, your dentist then translated them into some kinds of strange dental jargons that you've never heard before. It is now obvious that you and your dentist do not live on the same planet (and of course you will rush to say "and I am from earth"). The dentist simply speaks an alien language. Here're some hints to open up the communication between you two.

How You Say It...	How Your Dentist Says It...
Yank - Just YANK the darn tooth out, it has been hurting me like crazy!	EXTRACT - Don't worry. I'll EXTRACT the tooth for you
WRENCH - Is that a WRENCH you are using to yank my tooth?	FORCEP - No, that's a FORCEP I'm using. Please give it back to me.
CHOPPER - Doc., my CHOPPER can't chop anything no more.	DENTURE - You'll be able to chew better with a set of new DENTURE.
PLATE - But I don't want another chopper. I want a plate.	DENTURE - Plate and chopper is the same thing in this case: DENTURE.
DRILL - Why you need a DRILL to put a filling on?	HANDPIECE - This is a HANDPIECE for removing the decay in your tooth.
CAP - The CAP on my front tooth has loosened up.	FILLING/CROWN - I will put a new FILLING/CROWN back on for you.
BLACK TOOTH - My girlfriend said I am not attractive anymore because of my BLACK TEETH.	STAINED TOOTH - That's just STAIN. After the cleaning, you'll be a handsome fellow again in no time.
ROTTEN TOOTH - Thank God. I thought all my teeth are ROTTEN.	CARIES - Sorry to disappointed you. You do have some caries.
THE GIRL WHO BROUGHT ME IN - THE GIRL WHO BROUGHT ME IN said that you would treat me nice though.	DENTAL ASSISTANT - My DENTAL ASSISTANT was right. But you still need some fillings.
THE GIRL WHO CLEANS MY TEETH - THE GIRL WHO CLEANS MY TEETH is my neighbor.	HYGIENIST - Even though the HYGIENIST is living beside you, you still need some fillings.
SILVER FILLING - Would SILVER FILLING hurts less?	AMALGAM - You did have some AMALGAM fillings last time. What do you think?
WHITE FILLING - Would you treat me nicer if I go for WHITE FILLING?	COMPOSITE - I always treat you nice whether you get COMPOSITE fillings or not.
BRACES - Would you skip the filling if I go for BRACES?	OROTHODONTIC TREATMENT - OROTHODONTIC TREATMENT is for alignment of your teeth only. You still need some fillings for those cavities.
What if I say I don't believe what you said??	YOU STILL NEED FILLINGS!
